NOW OPEN!!

Granite City Food & Brewery founder Steve Wagenheim has launched a new restaurant called Pub 42 in New Hope.

"Granite City Food & Brewery founder Steve Wagenheim has launched a new restaurant called Pub 42 in New Hope. The building, located at 7600 N. 42nd Ave., formerly was home to The Sunshine Factory, which had operated there for 37 years before recently relocating to Plymouth. Sunshine Factory closed Nov. 17 and Wagenheim opened Pub 42 the next day at 11 a.m. Pub 42 initially operated only in the bar portion of the restaurant, while making major renovations to the more formal dining room. The full 10,000-square-foot restaurant, which seats approximately 360 people, opened Friday. Wagenheim said he didn't want to risk alienating the restaurant's regular customers while converting to the new concept, so he catered in food for the first week while getting the kitchen up to speed. It introduced 10 menu items the following week, then added five more in each ensuing week, using customers to test new items. "Our focus was to never close," he said.

Pub 42 has ramped up to a staff of 65 people and an equal number of menu items, including burgers, sandwiches, salads, flatbreads and dinner entrees such as steaks, salmon, pork chops and pasta. All of the food is made from scratch, like at Granite City. Prices range from $6 for an appetizer to $28 for the filet mignon. The restaurant currently has 23 beers on tap and plans to add seven more in the coming weeks.

We wanted to keep this a fun, neighborhood place. It’s a polished-casual menu at the right price point, and we have a large enough menu to give people a reason to come back in.
— Steve Wagenheim, Founder

In addition to totally renovating the dining room, which Wagenheim referred to as a "tired supper club," Pub 42 also installed a wrap-around bar, a new sound system and some brick on the exterior of the building. It will make some upgrades to the large outdoor deck this spring." - John Vomhof Jr. 2014
